The VFW annual white elephant party was another fun event for the holidays. We had a great group of people that attended this and I'm pretty sure everyone walked away with some wonderful gifts.
What a great way to start the holiday season. Thanks to everyone that participated and made the night a fun event for the VFW.
The horseshoe tournament had 12 teams competing for the grand champion. These teams began throwing at 12:00 and continued on into the evening. Congratulations go to "Frito and Cheeto" (aka. Steve and Justin Scott) for their consistent marksmanship! It was actually a hard fought match from what I'm told, as they beat out the day-long undefeated team of Speedo and Cold Passing Johnnie (aka. Robert West and John Hardy)in the come back series of the day.
The weather was perfect and we had an amazing crowd to help celebrate this fun day. You couldn't have asked for a more beautiful day. There were 10 entries in the ribs competition and I was told the judges had a difficult time deciding from all the delicious ribs they sampled. Congratulations to Robyn and Lynn for their winning combination of grilling and sauces .
A Great Big "THANK YOU" to all that participated and attended making it a great day!
VFW Dinner Club News
After a long rainy work-week, the dinner club adventured out into the monsoons to enjoy a wonderful meal together.
On Thursday, we put our names in the bucket and drew out Germantown Grille in Germantown Hills.
We began our evening with a cocktail hour at the VFW before we ventured to the resturant, and for some of us it was an adventure just to get there!
The Grille was a quaint little bar and they had our table all set up for us.
We each tried something different off the menu as no one had eaten here before. Over all all we gave this place a rating of 9 thumbs up and 1 down and would recommend it to others as a good place to eat.
Of course we ended this perfect night back at our favorite place, the VFW, for nightcaps... and someone had to pick up the special dessert made just for him!
Be sure to sign up for our next dinner outing and join in the fun and food.
V.F.W. Women’s League
Bowling Banquet 2013
The Women's league ended up the season with their annual banquet on Saturday the 13th. We traveled across the river to dine at Sky Harbor and all enjoyed a delicious meal serenaded by wonderful piano music. After dinner we had a great time dancing to the singing and music, although it was a little tight around all the tables! We then traveled on to a little Karaoke bar where we all enjoyed some sing-along as we continued to celebrate. We ended up the evening back at the place we all enjoy most, the VFW, and toasted to our terrific year and wonderful sponsors
We send out a great big THANK YOU SO MUCH to the VFW members for helping to make our season so much fun! See you next bowling season!
ST PAT'S 2013
We had good food, good drinks, and great friends to celebrate this crazy day!
Thank you VFW for another fun day.

With Bob Rassi as the head judge this year, he recruited Sherry, Terri, Kyna and members of the Tazewell Tigers Football team to judge. Thank you!
Some pretty serious cooking went on for the contest this year. I am so glad we had such great judges because I sure would not have wanted to decide, they all tasted so wonderful.

2nd Place winner was Tim
....... and the 2013 - 31st Meatloaf champion was Jaime! Congratulations!

Members of Company B, 2nd Battalion, 238th GSAB leave Bartonville airport with an early morning lift off. Family and friends were on hand as they deployed to Fort Hood, Texas for up to two months of training before leaving for southern Afghanistan. The 238th flies the CH-47D Chinook helicopter for the U.S. Army This group is also known as the "River City Hookers," as the 238th can "hook," lift and transport things from supplies to vehicles to weapons.
Our prayers and thoughts are with them and their families.

New Year's & Soup Day 2013!
Can't think of a better way to bring in the New Year! It was a fun night bringing in the new year together as well as sharing a "filling" yet relaxing January 1st with the annual Soup Day.
We enjoyed a fun night at the "White Elephant" Christmas exchange on the 20th. Even though a blizzard was blowing outside, we all had a fun evening at the VFW. Click on the link below to see the video of this night.
Cookie Day 2012!
Our traditional Cookie Day was another huge success! Not quite sure how many years we have been gathering to bake and collect cookies at the VFW but this year was another great accomplishment.
Each year we have new friends join in and donate their talents to this event and I am so glad to see this continue to grow. As in other years, we even have our school kids write letters and decorate cards so it has become a whole community event that everyone enjoys. This year a craft and jewelry show was a nice addition to the day and there was even a football scrimmage going on outdoors – what could be better???
Thank you everyone for making this a wonderful day and for helping us deliver the Christmas spirit to others through the VFW.
It was a great time at the 7th annual Night Golf Outing this Saturday! Thank you so much to my "event photographer", Jaime, for these great action photos, you did a wonderful job! The greens were perfect and the weather actually not as cold as everyone had anticipated.
This event was once again so much fun! If you've never tried it, be sure to enter next year.
Individual team winners were Steve, Trent and Dean all with great 6 hole rounds! The overall winner for year 7 at the Rassi Pines Golf Outing was Trent in first with a 21 on a par 22 and Kyle came in with a close 25.

VETERANS DAY SALUTE
It turned out to be a perfect Veteran's Day at the Morton VFW Friday, November 11th, 2011. The CH-47 Chinook Helicopter and crew landed right on time around 11:00. It was great to see so many families and veterans come to pay tribute on this day and enjoy being able to tour the helicopter. Everyone got a chance to sit up in the cockpit and experience the day with the crew before they flew out at 4:00. A special thanks goes out to the crew and base for making this a memorable Veteran’s Day.
In the fall each year the members and public join together at dark and compete in the Night Golf Championship. This involves using a "glow-in-the-dark" golf ball and a 6-hole golf course laid out in our acreage in the back. The lowest score, as well as the return of all equipment, determines the winner.
